SCS Pactor Modems
We have always been impressed with the professionalism and integrity of our friends at SCS in Germany. They have consistently provided us with excellent dealer support. During the many years that we have been a dealer for SCS products, we have only experienced one defective modem and that problem was diagnosed prior to shipping. That history alone should provide an excellent indication of SCS product quality.

Pactor Modem Manual
Since our many clients were geographically scattered around the world and in most cases represented the marine cruising community, we were receiving continual requests for SCS Pactor modem installation and operation instructions. While attempting to respond to these requests it was evident that each request was slightly different and that what was required was a manual that covered all of the issues, written in a non technical manner, but still able to provide clear step by step instructions for the installation and operation of SCS Pactor modems.
Our rationale was that a computer crash at sea, away from high speed internet facilities would, at the very least, be somewhat upsetting. The user also may have been quite familiar with the installation of the software prior to leaving for their trip, but a year later would be hard pressed to remember the installation and setup procedures. To this end we decided to publish a manual titled “INSTALLING AND OPERATING SCS PACTOR MODEMS”.
Pactor Modem Kit Development
It became evident that many clients wished to simplify their modem installation issues by requesting that we supply custom cables for their installations. To address this problem we started configuring kits that were designed to be “plug and play”, not “plug and pray”. These kits would include all of the cables and software required to simplify the installation of any SCS Pactor modem model and to interface that modem to many of the popular makes and models of HF transceivers.
At the same time we realized that a computer crash at sea, away from the usual high speed internet facilities, would at the very least, be somewhat upsetting. We felt that the reinstallation of text e-mail, propagation and weather fax software would be greatly simplified if a CD containing all of the pertinent software was also supplied as part of the kit. Since the software required very little space on the CD, it was decided to use the extra space and add a lot of other software and information that would be useful to the cruising mariner. For example, all of the SCS Pactor modems, Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu, SGC and other radio manuals also reside on the CD.

We have been dealers for Icom Canada marine HF radio transceivers for several years. During that time we have also provided Icom Canada with HF data communications consulting services. Icom not only makes one of the best HF marine transceivers in the world, but their transceivers are also the easiest to interface with SCS Pactor modems. Along with high quality equipment, Icom also provides excellent world-wide service locations with highly qualified and dedicated technicians.
Vertex Standard HF Radio Transceivers
These transceivers impressed us from the first time we became involved with them. They offer a low priced high quality HF transceiver that is Industry Canada approved for commercial applications. We are currently using these HF transceivers to provide phone and data communications in isolated locations that do not have landline or cell phone coverage, or that wish to have emergency backup communications. Using one of our specially designed antenna systems, these units provide an excellent solution for many HF communication requirements.
Pulse Tech Battery Maintenance Products
We have used and installed these products for several years and during that time have been continually amazed at how well these units work. Over the years the products have continued to evolve and now work better than ever before. We have sold hundreds of these units and experienced very few defective returns. However, every time we have had a unit returned as defective, it has been replaced at no charge by Pulse Tech. With that quality of product support, we are proud to be one of their dealers.
